In the late '70s, when skateboarding needed a sturdy, quick-turning truck, Fausto created Independent. In the early '80s, when the corpse of skateboarding convincingly played dead, Fausto blasted it back to life with Thrasher magazine. Over the past three decades, he and his many brands have always kept skateboarding raw and real.
Fausto Vitello passed away of a heart attack on Saturday, April 22, 2006, but his rugged spirit will live on in all of skateboarding. Read the full story and go buy the best book ever published about skateboarding.
Long live Fausto! Long live skateboarding!

aww too bad.
he seemed like a cool guy. all i skate r indys
his spirit will live on
Yea, what he said ^^^^^^^^
That's really sad. Skateboarding has lost a legend.
Skateboarding has lost another great.
who the fuck is he? And plz don't say "Skateboarding lost a legend" or something like that, that's true: US Skateboarding lost a legend. Realize that skateboarding is much more than the us.
Ummm like it says, he started Indpendent Trucks and Thrasher Magazine. Did you even read the post? Good lord.
incsk8,
Your attempt to make this into a country vs. country thing is silly. Skateboarding crosses all international boundaries. Your post also shows how little you know about the history of skateboarding. Plus, Fausto was born in Argentina anyway.
He is a legend though. He started Independent and Thrasher! That's pretty big if you ask me.
Damn too bad he passed away well atleast he brought some of the goods to skating.
yo that sucks i just bought a pair of indys too
skate to die, die to skate
Much love to him man rest in peace
Putting 'damn' before you say that sucks or sumthing is a bit disrespectful... sorta like sayin go to hell mother fuker you suck haha just kiddin...
Skateboarding is only young... i suppose we will be seeing legends die old soon. 60 is a bit young but still...
Garry is right skateboarding a international thing not just america by it self just look at the eS team 4 of the 8guys on the team are international
he also started spitfires and ventures..i think, or had some part in it
rest in peace fausto
skateboarding is forever
RIP fausto. and incsk8 you suck, you said the same thing at the emerica site.
yes, and so? U guys are too focused in skateboarding in the us. I don't think that it's a good thing...
Sorry if I've hurt somebodys feelings o thoughts, but Fausto's dead is a lost 4 us skateboarding. U guys think that skateboarding is only about the states and europe?
The point that i want to focus is that skateboarding is so much more than companies, it feels that nobody skates 4 fun anymore. Thet only care about landing the sickest tricks or grinding the biggest rails. Open ur eyes and realize that skateboarding is more that people or tricks.
Incsk8- Nobody was ragging on international skateboarding, this guy started Independent and Thrasher, he kept skating alive when most thought it was dead in the late 80's & 90's. R.I.P.
man that sucks.
dude he started 2 of the rawest companies. that sucks that he passed away. incsk8- ur gay. noones hating on international skateboarding. i know just as well as you do about guys like lucas puig and paul shier and respect them to the fullest. u need to shut up and stop whining.
rest in peace Fausto
don't understand what incsk8 means... fausto was a guy who loved skateboarding, contributed to its development and what it is right now. Does he deserve less than this little article?
Solidsk8 y the hell would i direct damn at him?? i was directing damn at his death but watever dude..
The Crailtap site has had his picture on the index all week. That's awesome.
incsk8 - Are you saying that only people in the US or Europe use Indy trucks or read Thrasher Magazine? I don't think, what ever the point is you are trying to make, applies here. So I would just drop it.
indys are the shit there all i skate and incsk8 you suck go trie start fights elsware
He's just speaking what he feels is right. Let him believe what he wants to believe. In the meantime, please check out my website. www.freewebs.com/tryskateboarding. I posted some new stuff on there. Long live Fausto Vitello!
