The éS Game of SKATE at SOKA in Manchester, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, was held on Friday, July 7, 2006 in the parking lot outside the store. Our crew pulled up to find more than 150 kids ready to go, and it turned out to be a fun day. When there is a lot of amazing skating, it makes the Games go fast, and this was a good one.

With Thug Nasty and his pal Arthur Dachiardi, who made the trip from Kansas City, and Pepito Galindo and local ripper Corey Hendricks all looking strong, we all had our guesses about who would win.

Thug Nasty took out Pepito and then his friend Arthur to make it to the Finals, along with John Welch, Corey, JR Richardson, Scott Laird and Nick Bernardi. In the end, Nick took the top spot, with a huge bag of tricks, including the old silly ones that people just don’t think about. Nick had no thoughts of winning, and was truly surprised, which was pretty refreshing.

Despite some teasing about his steez, Nick was a graceful winner and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares in San Diego. SOKA was a great host and our thanks go out to Mark and Frank and the crew. On this trip, I finally learned what SOKA stands for, and I like them even more now: Sick of Kissing Ass. Perfect.--Mark Waters
