As usual, the Pitcrew guys were our favorite hosts on the éS Game of SKATE tour. Although there a lot of great people we’ve met on these tours, Malcolm and Tim from Pitcrew, and all the folks that make it happen for them, just have it going on. The spot was beautiful, the ground was perfect, the weather was great and there was nobody to bother but skaters at a skatepark a few hundred yards away.
And, of course, the éS Game of SKATE on Sunday, July 16, 2006 grew from last year, with 180 skaters entering this time. A couple of rippers from last year’s series, who had done really well at a bunch of East Coast stops, made it all the way to the Semi-Finals and had to face each other. It always sucks when that happens, but since the pairings at the start are completely random, it’s bound to happen eventually if a couple of guys make it that far.
Anyway, quiet giant Spencer Brown took out his friend Matt Ray in the Semi-Finals, and went on to take the whole event, despite the best efforts of éS Art Director Matt Willigan, who proved that he can still hold it down, making it all the way to the Finals. Travis Arterburn, Euro-styler Arthur Lagauskus, Dante Benjamin, Will Stackus and Freddie Obrecht were some of the other standouts in my memory as I write this. Congrats to Spencer. He will be going to San Diego with his new Boost Mobile i875 phone! And thanks again to Jay Brundege, Josh and the FromOhio crew for all your help. Truly.--Mark Waters
