01 Description

Originally released in 1998, the éS Two Nine 8 quickly became a standout of its era, defined by a bold silhouette and dependable skate performance. It was a shoe that captured the direction of late-’90s skateboarding, balancing style, durability, and function in equal measure.

This modern reissue stays true to the original design while refining the construction for today’s skating. The Two Nine 8 maintains its distinctive profile, delivering a stable, supportive feel with the responsiveness needed for both technical skating and bigger terrain.

Built to handle demanding sessions, the shoe offers a balance of protection and comfort without unnecessary bulk. Its structure supports long days on the board while preserving the control and boardfeel that made the original a favorite.

A late-’90s icon, reintroduced with purpose. The éS Two Nine 8 stands as a reminder of an era when design and performance evolved together — and still holds its place in modern skateboarding.

Good shoes in big size

Very glad the OG's go up to size 15 (EU 49, 32cm feet). I initially ordered a size too small, make sure to add + 1cm to your foot length when reading the size guide! Customer contact for the return was smooth and friendly.

I love how fluffy the shoes are, but still have good ground/boardfeel. The black ones look sick with bright colored straight bar lacing!

Can't comment on durability yet, but on first impression they seem sturdy.

Hey Ernst,
Appreciate the detailed feedback — good to hear the Accel OG works well for you in the larger sizing range and that the return process was smooth. Noted on the sizing tip and the balance between cushioning and boardfeel as well. Stoked you’re enjoying the setup, especially the lace combo.

I have been wearing es shoes for over 20 years

I have been wearing es shoes for over 20 years. They do not disappoint. This is my 2nd pair of Two Nine 8's, I skated the last pair for almost 4 months and they held up better than expected. I will continue buying es as long as they keep the old school models coming. Check out my reviews on my YouTube channel

I have been skating Es' since the late 90s

I have been skating Es' since the late 90s. I was stoked to see the Koston 2s in 2025 and had to grab them. I have 2 months of MOB grip tape beatings on these bad boys and they are still going strong. I won't skate any other brand. I have the Koston 2s in yellow and black and I just got the Creagers in navy. Es' for life. I have one thing to ask of the company though. I really want a pair of the one nine 7s, I don't care what color I just want them. Let me know when they are coming back, I will buy them for sure.

The shoes look great in person and they are actually lighter than I expected. They are very well padded but not super poofy. Overall they are comfortable shoes that I highly recommend!

The nubuck stains onto the mesh.

I bought the navy, white, and grey model, which is definitely nice, but on my first use at the park this winter in France, a little water got on the shoe and started to discolor the mesh. When I got home, I tried to remove it with a brush and shoe cleaner, but it only made it worse. I had to soak and clean the shoes several times until the water was no longer blue. But in the end, the mesh is no longer grey, but blue-grey, and it will stay that way. I don't recommend this model, and I don't understand why the nubuck isn't rinsed properly before assembly. Apart from that, they are comfortable and offer excellent protection.

Love what I got and was as expected

Love the shoes they feel and fit great, the extra pair of green laces are super sick. And the shoes feel super sick. My only complaint it's not really a complaint but the insole where the es logo is on the heel is rubbing off and making my socks heel red but it comes off.

These are the first ES I’ve ever tried LOVE THEM

Really Good Shoe! I’ve had Vans,Nike,NB, and DC and none of them have lasted this long for me usually I’ll get a good 2 months if I’m lucky out of a shoe I’m a lil heavy footed with my flicks and known to create a massive Ollie holes pretty Easy… I’ve had these shoes since July (3-4months) I’m just now starting to put a Ollie hole in them you can’t even tell it’s there and I’ve actually made the bottoms bald and ripped a hole in the bottom before anything never done that before because like I said I haven’t found a shoe to last this long so I’d rather replace them because of that then an Ollie hole ever month!!

Hi there!

We're so glad to hear that you're loving our Two Nine 8 shoes! It's great to know that they're holding up well for you, especially with your heavy footed flicks and Ollie holes. We pride ourselves on creating durable and long-lasting shoes, so it's always wonderful to receive feedback like yours. Thank you for choosing our brand, and we hope you continue to enjoy your Two Nine 8s for many more months to come!

Awesome

Got these yesterday (olive colorway). Very comfortable straight out of the box, love the reflector details, puffy but not too puffy, breathable (wore them all day today), look great - plus this colourway is animal-friendly. Grateful you made these. Kostalgia.

ESSHOES IS VERY NICE

I've tried several different types of skateboarding shoes, but ES skateboarding shoes are the best. They're especially comfortable. They're also beautifully designed, and come in a variety of colors, so you can choose the one that best suits your taste. However, Korean importers often don't carry a lot of them, making them difficult to purchase domestically. That's why I buy them directly from the ESkateboarding website.

Merely a shadow of the OG K2

To make it short: I don’t get the design decision to the change the outsole. The outsole of the original shoe was such a characteristic design feature. To change that means changing the complete shoe.
I was stoked when I found out they would retro the K2s because I couldn't get them back in the day.
When I saw the first pictures of the retro I was just disappointed. I’m still not decided if I should buy a pair. It just doesn’t make sense to change the shoe in such a drastic manner and then market it as connected the OG.

Hi Sasgot,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on our Two Nine 8 product. We understand how important the design of the outsole is to you and we apologize for any disappointment caused by the change. We value your opinion and we will take it into consideration for any future updates. We hope you will give the shoe a try and see how it performs. If you have any further concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your support!

I love these shoes

I love these shoes. I think it’s great that y’all are doing these re-issues. I’m stoked these are vegan. I’ve been liking all the vegan color ways that you guys do. I got the Muska as well, in the sand color. The only thing I really have a gripe about is the durability of the sole. I just feel like these sole wear out really fast compared to the last shoes I was wearing, which were the DC Kalynx. Even so, you guys are really the only ones doing the sick, vegan color ways, but I would say that it would be cool for the 197’s to be released in a vegan color way. Also I couldn’t find the Quattro in a vegan color way. I know they had the sand color before, but those were sold out online. That vegan suede really holds up, and I just wish there was a vegan suede color way of all the shoes, really. It’s just long-term a lot more sustainable to be using man-made materials. It would be nice for me to be able to skate a consistently available vegan model. Really though I like the chunky shoes and the Sophisto is not chunky enough. I’ll say it again, but the Quattro would be good in a vegan color way because I just feel like that’s one of the most perfect silhouettes. It reminds me a little bit of the legacy 98 slims, which are my favorite shoes from DC and I’m pretty upset that they discontinued them. Thanks for killing it for all these years. I just watched Menikmati the other day! ✌️

Classic Silhouettes

TWO NINE 8 is a classic, great work bringing these back, Es!

FAQ

01 Do éS shoes fit true to size?

As they are designed with a medium-width profile, most éS shoes fit true to size with a classic skate fit-secure in the heel with room for natural movement in the forefoot. Models like the Accel and Swift are built on legacy éS lasts, while newer silhouettes may feel more streamlined. If you prefer a tighter performance fit, you can size down ½ size.

02 Are éS shoes good for impact skating?

Yes. Many models were built using STI Energy Foam midsoles, high-rebound insoles, and supportive cupsole construction and we are always developing technologies for the future. These designs originated from the golden era of technical skating and have been refined to handle modern impact demands.

03 Why does éS focus on engineering?

éS was founded to advance skate footwear. In the 90s and 2000s, the brand set the benchmark for technical design - clean silhouettes, smart overlays, better impact protection, and shoes built to progress skateboarding. Today, that same engineering mindset underpins every new model.

04 What materials do éS shoes typically use?

Full-grain leather, suede, synthetic reinforcements, breathable mesh, and high-grip rubber. Materials are selected for the blend of durability, performance, and feel needed for technical skateboarding.

05 How do I choose between éS shoe models?

All éS shoes use cupsole construction, but each model offers a different mix of support, boardfeel and durability. Classic styles like the Accel or Swift are stable and durable. Modern models focus on lighter weight and impact protection, while heritage remasters keep original design DNA. Choose based on whether you want more support or a more responsive feel.

06 What technologies do éS shoes use?

éS shoes use skate-specific construction features for durability, comfort and performance. These include cupsole construction, reinforced ollie zones, triple-stitched toe caps, rubberized overlays on high-wear areas, hidden lace-loops, molded EVA or E-Bound foam insoles for impact protection, breathable mesh panels and high-grip rubber outsoles.

07 How durable are éS shoes?

Durability is engineered into the build: reinforced ollie zones, rubber overlays, triple stitching, and high-abrasion materials. Cupsole models provide long-lasting outsole integrity, while selected vulc models use wrapped foxing for wear protection.

08 What makes the Accel an iconic skate shoe?

The Accel is one of the most influential shoes in skateboarding history - known for its clean design, durable cupsole, and balanced boardfeel. It became the standard for technical skating in the mid-to-late 90s and continues to influence modern éS design today.

09 Are éS shoes made for skateboarding?

Yes. Every éS shoe is designed for technical skateboarding, from tread patterns to foam systems to wear zones. éS was founded to push skate footwear design forward, and that engineering-first mindset guides every model we release.

10 Cupsole vs vulcanized - what’s the difference?

Cupsoles offer more support, impact protection and long-lasting stability - central to éS heritage and seen on icons like the Accel and TJ Rogers. Vulc styles deliver immediate boardfeel and flexibility. Both are engineered specifically for technical skateboarding; it comes down to your skating style and preference.

11 Which pros skate or wear éS shoes?

éS has been worn by many of skateboarding’s most influential pros, including Eric Koston, Tom Penny, Chad Muska, Bob Burnquist, Rick McCrank and Ronnie Creager. Later generations included Paul Rodriguez, PJ Ladd, Rodrigo TX and Wade Desarmo. In 2025, éS introduced the TJ Rogers pro model, continuing the brand’s long tradition of supporting elite skateboarders.
